Ortix browser uses device-based authentication for subscription management through Polar.sh, a third-party payment and subscription platform. There are no license keys or manual activation codes. Your subscription is automatically linked to your device through a secure hardware-based identifier.
Device Identifier Generation: When you first launch Ortix, the app generates a unique device identifier using your Mac's hardware UUID and serial number. This identifier is created locally on your device using cryptographic hashing (SHA-256) and is stored securely in your device's keychain. The device identifier cannot be reversed to reveal your hardware information and is used solely for subscription verification.
Payment Processing via Polar.sh: All payment transactions, billing, and subscription management for Ortix are processed by Polar.sh. When you subscribe to Ortix, your payment information, billing details, and email address are collected and processed by Polar.sh according to their privacy policy. We do not directly collect or store your payment card information, billing address, or other sensitive payment details. For details on how Polar.sh handles your information, please review their privacy policy at polar.sh/legal/privacy.
Subscription Verification: Ortix periodically connects to Polar.sh's Customer State API to verify your subscription status. During this verification, Ortix sends your device identifier, platform information (macOS), and app version to Polar.sh. Polar.sh uses this information to confirm your subscription is active and return subscription details such as subscription status (active, trial, canceled), current period dates, and subscription tier. We cache this information locally in your device's keychain to reduce server requests and enable offline functionality.
Information We Receive from Polar.sh: Polar.sh provides us with minimal information necessary to validate your subscription. This may include your email address (if you provided it during checkout), subscription status, subscription start and end dates, trial status, and device authorization status. We use this information solely to determine whether to grant access to Ortix features. We do not use this information for advertising or analytics.
Software Updates: When Ortix checks for software updates, it sends limited technical information to our servers—such as the current app version, build number, operating system version, and platform. Update checks are separate from subscription verification and do not send your device identifier or subscription information to our servers.
Customer Portal Access: You can manage your Ortix subscription through the customer portal accessible within the app. When you access the portal, Ortix creates an authenticated session with Polar.sh using your device identifier. This grants you secure access to view and manage your subscription, billing information, and authorized devices.
Your Browsing Remains Private: Neither we nor Polar.sh collect or inspect the contents of websites you visit in Ortix. The device identifier and subscription verification system are used solely to validate your subscription status—not to monitor your browsing activity, track websites you visit, or collect personal browsing data.
